We are starting to prepare for the 2024 roe deer season

As we enter March, we are focusing on preparations for the imminent start of the roe deer hunting season on April 1st. This month is special for us; it’s a time for observation and planning, watching how the countryside recovers after an intense hunting season and how the animals begin to relax in our carefully maintained and managed hunting areas.

In the past few months, we have conducted meticulous control, but it is in March that we intensify our scouting efforts. The males separate and begin to define what will eventually be their territory for this new season, and unless a younger and stronger one changes the balance, the old owners will try to maintain their zones. This process is crucial for monitoring the movements of the roe deer in our preserve.

Although recent days have been challenging, with fewer appearances of large males than expected, we remain hopeful. The bad weather, cold, and winds make it difficult to locate them in open areas. The young roe deer, on the other hand, despite the winds limiting their senses, are less cautious when grazing.

It’s exciting to observe these promising youngsters, who represent the future of our hunting. Although they are still developing and retain their winter coats, their presence is an indicator of the health and strength of the roe deer population in our area. With a winter that has provided abundant food and an exceptional year for acorns, we anticipate a high-quality season.

This month of preparations is just the beginning of what we hope will be a memorable and fruitful season, achieving the hunt for mature and quality animals. The adventure is about to begin.
